To further horticultural education, conservation, and landscape design, NBGC established an annual scholarship in 1979. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student majoring in a horticulture-related field.
Applicants are required to be a college-level junior or above, with a minimum 3.25 GPA, majoring in a field of horticulture — floriculture, landscape design, horticulture, botany, biology, plant pathology, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, city floriculture planning, land management, or other allied subjects.
In October 2015 the NBGC scholarship was renamed the Ann Gay Scholarship Fund to honor Ann, a long-time resident of Nassau Bay who is also a long-time member of Nassau Bay Garden Club. She has served the Club several times as president and filled chairmanships locally, chaired committees in the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs, and has served the Coastal Prairie Council (District IV) in chairmanships. In May 2015, she completed two years as District Director of District IV, the largest district in the state.
