“Soars With the Birds” will get us more knowledgeable and interested in our avian neighbors. Jeff Glattly of Wild Birds Unlimited will present a program on how to welcome year-round birds and also the more unusual migratory birds that come through our Gulf Coast “throat” twice yearly. Birders come from all over the United States and even other countries to see our abundant varieties of coastal, prairie, and forest birds. Find out what brings them here and get in on the fun. You won’t have to be a card-carrying birder to enjoy the birds of our trees, the peninsula and lake shore.
We have enjoyed the wonderful creativity of Beth Ann Maxwell and Joy Edwards. They are willing to share tips on how to decorate your home from the family gatherings of Thanksgiving through to the whole holiday season. Betty Armstrong will chip in a few ideas on how to use what you have already and what the dollar stores have to offer. Joy is a specialist in using greenery from the garden to enhance any area of the house. Beth Ann will “share the flair!”
We will learn more about the new green jewel in our area, Exploration Green. We will be presented a program outlining how this wonderful area came about and the work that went into creating this recreation and conservation park.
Roscoe Lee, a long-time resident, will present a program on our own natural beauty spots in Nassau Bay. He will talk about all the efforts that go into “Keep Nassau Bay Beautiful.” That includes work of the Parks Committee, the city Parks Department, and volunteers. We are lucky to live in a beautiful town and we will find out more about what it takes to maintain that green, lush look.
Julie Cartmill, a Master Gardener, will tell us what we need to know about our trees. If you send questions to Betty Armstrong, email@example.com, she will forward them to Julie before the program and she will try to address them. We all wonder about moss, ball and Spanish, and we wonder what we can do to stop or at least slow down, “crepe murder!” If you lost a tree and would like to replace it, she will have some ideas. Also, she will give tips on the when, why, and how of pruning.
